Can’t download Windows 8 Upgrade–not available in your country/region?

Windows 8 isn't available for online purchase

How to solve Windows 8 isn’t available for download in your region error message – I was about to purchase the Windows 8 Pro upgrade for my Windows 7 PC through Microsoft’s official website. At the last step however, I got the error message of: “Sorry, Windows 8 isn’t available for online purchase in the country/region you’re in”. I was like.. “What?” I’m pretty sure we can download and upgrade in Australia.

After doing some Google search on the net, I found a simple solution.

This step happened after the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant has finished checking the compatibility of your system. If that error message happens, just press “Finish” to quit Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. Set the .exe file ‘s compatibility to run in “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)” (or “Windows XP Service Pack 2”).

If you don’t know how to do it, follow these steps below.

How to fix “Sorry, Windows 8 isn’t available for online purchase in the country/region you’re in” error on Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant

  1. Right click on the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant file you downloaded and click “Properties”
  2. There should be a “Compatibility” tab, select it
  3. Then choose the “Run this program in compatibility mode for”,
  4. Pick Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
  5. Now, run “Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant” once again

It’s funny that the error message is not because Windows 8 is not available in your country or region, though somehow the Upgrade Assistant gives a misleading error.
